Thank you for clicking onto our church site. Plains Presbyterian covers a vast geographical area that is Rakaia, Methven, Staveley, Mayfield and Carew.
The gospel we believe in, is the risen Christ whose Love knows no bounds. Who Grace is abounding and whose forgiveness is freely given to all who ask. God welcomes you. We welcome you.
Our people are our greatest strength. We are a forward-focusing church which nurtures its young, supports the middle-aged and the elderly. We seek to reach out with love, compassion and understanding, being a living example of what it means to be Christian.
Attending Plains Presbyterian is a diverse group with wide-ranging talents and interests. Dedicated and faithful folk who attend worship regularly and who take an active interest, not only in the well-being of our respective church congregations but also in that of our wider communities.
Our congregations are also well supported by ‘fringe’ parishioners, who while they may not attend church regularly, are happy to support in other ways. Sunday worship takes places weekly at Methven and at least twice a month at Rakaia and Mayfield.
You can find our worship times here or through the main menu bar.

A geographically widespread parish in Rural Mid Canterbury. Our worship centres are based in Rakaia, Methven and Mayfield. The Mayfield district also has smaller worship centres at Carew, Staveley and Mt Somers. We aim to grow and active, living body of Christ in the Mt Hutt Riding or Rural Mid Canterbury. We will be a forward-focusing church which nurtures its young and supports the middle-aged and elderly. Our purpose is to bring together our scattered, diverse rural communities under a strengthened leadership model which allows each existing congregation to retain its unique presence in its local community. We will build a healthy, vibrant Presbyterian Parish, accessible to all and able to make a significant and distinctive contribution to the life of the region.
