Proverbs 6: 20
“My child, keep your fathers commandment, and do not forsake your mother’s teaching.”

In this day and age the dynamics of child rearing seem to have become more complicated than it was 30 to 50 years ago. The tension between parents and government views of rearing a child in regards to discipline whatever that may mean has been an ongoing controversy and debate. The ‘family’ portrait is not a ‘one size fits all’ as this has changed dramatically over the decades. Today, some children have the autonomy to make their own decisions without seeking advice from parents but from other sources and support. The reading of Proverbs gives advice to children of their role within the family unit not because they are children but because the parents know their child well and only seeks to equip their life journey. Some may find the words of Proverbs problematic because roles and relationships have changed. We think about family’s we know of who are having difficulties and uplift them in prayer and please contact me if you would to talk to someone as I understand there are sensitive family issues.
